Lageder Chardonnay is made from 100% Chardonnay, a variety introduced to Alto Adige in 1835 by Archduke John of Habsburg, and later revived by the founder of Italy's first oenological institute, who promoted its widespread distribution. Initially known as 'yellow' Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay was rediscovered in style by Alto Adige winemakers in the 1980s. The vineyards from which the grapes are grown, located in the areas of Magrè, Cortaccia, Salorno, and Pochi, offer this variety favorable growing conditions thanks to their calcareous, pebble-rich soils.
