Ardbeg 25 Years Old Whisky is a peated single malt Scotch whisky distilled in the 1990s (at a time when annual production was particularly low), and aged for a quarter of a century in classic oak casks before being bottled at 46% ABV. The Ardbeg distillery on the Isle of Islay began production way back in 1815. Founded by John McDougal, the distillery has now been in operation for over 200 years. In reality, Ardbeg hasn't always produced whisky; in fact, in the 1980s, with the collapse of demand for single malts, the distillery was mothballed by the previous owner (Hiram Walker). In 1989, Ardbeg changed owners and reopened, only to be closed again after a few years and reopened in 1997 by the current owner (Moet Hennessy).
